About Us and Our 2025 Focus
Perkumpulan OpenStreetMap Indonesia (POI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the use of OpenStreetMap in Indonesia. We believe that maps are not just navigation tools but solutions to drive positive change in society. In 2025, we are focusing on several key topics in all our campaigns and programs: disaster risk management, sustainable cities, climate resilience, gender equality with special attention to women’s safety, and poverty alleviation. These focuses guide every step and initiative we take to build a better Indonesia.
Climate resilience is one of our main priorities. We understand that climate change has significant impacts, especially for communities living in coastal areas. Protecting nature, including forests, is a crucial step in mitigating these effects. That’s why POI is collaborating with Lindungi Hutan on a campaign titled “Mapping for Impact – Participatory Mangrove Planting for Climate Resilience and Flood Mitigation in Semarang.” Through this campaign, we invite the community to contribute by mapping on OpenStreetMap (OSM), participating in POI activities, and supporting mangrove planting efforts to mitigate disasters, especially tidal flooding in Semarang.
Campaign Details
- Target: 750 trees collected by June 30, 2025
- Tree Species: Rhizophora Mangrove
- Location: Mangunharjo Beach, Tugu District, Semarang City
- Donation: IDR 20,000 per tree (including planting and maintenance)
Mangunharjo Beach, known for its gentle waves and tourism potential, is experiencing severe coastal erosion, leaving only 1 km of shoreline from residential areas. Planting Rhizophora Mangrove aims to trap soil sediment, create new land, and enhance the aesthetic value of the tourist area. This program has involved local communities since 2017.
Benefits and Positive Impacts of the Campaign
This campaign focuses not only on environmental restoration but also on delivering social and economic benefits:
- Preventing soil degradation due to coastal erosion (SDG 15)
- Minimizing flood risks in residential neighborhoods (SDG 15)
- Expanding green cover areas (SDG 15)
- Supporting carbon emission reduction efforts (SDG 13)
- Enhancing economic opportunities for local farmers and communities (SDG 1)
- Creating job opportunities for the surrounding population (SDG 8)
