After doing socialization in February 26 and February 27 2015 at STMIK SPB Airlangga, The First OpenStreetMap (OSM) Training in Borneo Island finally held. Taking place at Amaris Hotel, Samarinda , this training involves 3 colleges/universities in Samarinda. They are Mulawarman University, State Polytechnic of Samarinda and STMIK SPB Airlangga.
This training is a part of Mapping and Transparency Project in Kalimantan between Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Indonesia with Wikimedia Indonesia (WMID) and funded by Making All Voices Count (MAVC). For more details about this project plese visit here.
This OSM Training was conducted together with Wikipedia Writing Article Training. This training was held for 3 days from February 16 until February 18 2015. For February 16 and 17 it started from 9.00 until 12.00 AM and participants be taught about all materials that related with OSM whereas at February 18 they doing field survey to collecting data and add it into OSM therefore the training was held full day started from 09.00 AM until 05.00 PM.
The participants were enthusiastic and enjoy the training. For some participants this is a new thing for them so that they are very interested to know more about the benefits of OSM and how it can be useful in their activities. In addition, the participants also received their training modules that can be learned if someday they want to repeat the materials that they have learned during this training.
This is the first OSM Training that will be followed by a subsequent training which likely to be held in in May 2015. Through this training, the participants expected can contribute to complete the data in East Kalimantan especially in Samarinda into OSM and also can invite their friends to join and contribute to OSM.
